The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government opened the "Journey to Hong Kong" exhibition at Toronto Pearson International Airport today (June 30, Toronto time). The exhibition lets out-bound flight passengers get a feel for the most exciting and vibrant place in Asia through a fantastic scene of Hong Kong.

Featuring a replica of an iconic Hong Kong tram stop, the exhibition can immerse visitors in a local streetscape and let them embark on a quick journey to explore the city. In a short period, they can get a grasp of the city's basic facts and get a taste of the cityscape and transport network as well as cultural heritage. Showcasing Hong Kong as a place where tradition, modernity and the futuristic blend in surprising ways, the exhibition illustrates the true features of Hong Kong - Asia's world city.

Officiating at the opening ceremony this afternoon, the Director of the HKETO, Miss Gloria Lo, told the guests that, as a cosmopolitan city strategically located at the heart of Asia, Hong Kong has long been home to a diverse community that embraces excellence and quality living.

"From festivals and food to architecture and entertainment, Hong Kong offers the best exemplary model of a perfect blend of East and West," she said.

"In our city, you can experience heritage icons the Star Ferry and double-decker tramcars on the one hand and make speedy trips throughout the city by the efficient railway network on the other. You can also appreciate the harmonious co-existence of modern high-rises and historic and heritage sites," Miss Lo added.

Miss Lo continued that Hong Kong always welcomes people from around world to come to the city for leisure, business and other ventures.

"With the unique combined advantages under 'One Country' and 'Two Systems' through the implementation of the Basic Law, and our position as the 'super-connector' between Mainland China and the rest of the world, Hong Kong presents huge business potential for different sectors and industries," Miss Lo said.

The exhibition also presents details of the pilot Admission Scheme for the Second Generation of Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents (ASSG) and other enhancements to the admission arrangements for talent, professionals and entrepreneurs which have been implemented by the HKSAR Government since May this year. At the ceremony, Miss Lo encouraged Hong Kong people residing in Canada to look for opportunities in Hong Kong through the ASSG.

"Canada and Hong Kong are extended family and good business partners. Hong Kong is the sixth largest export market of Canada and has been identified as one of the priority markets in the Global Markets Action Plan of the Canadian federal government. We see lots of potential between the two places," Miss Lo added.

The Vice President, Stakeholder Relations and Communications at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, Ms Hillary Marshall, and the Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (Canada), Mr Michael Lim, also officiated at the ceremony.

Apart from displaying the replica tram stop and colourful exhibit panels, the exhibition also features videos on Hong Kong and the experience of Canadians living in the city via QR codes on display.

The exhibition, which is being held at Gate C30 in Terminal 3 of Toronto Pearson International Airport, will continue until July 29. A dedicated website (www.journeytohk.gov.hk/toronto) has also been launched to tie in with the exhibition. Those who do not have a chance to visit the exhibition in person can learn about cosmopolitan Hong Kong via the website.
