**************************************************

The Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, visited Wong Tai Sin District this afternoon (June 25) to learn about the elderly and youth services provided by two organisations in the local community. He also met with members of Wong Tai Sin District Council.

Accompanied by District Officer (Wong Tai Sin), Mrs Angel Choi, Mr Lai first met with members of Wong Tai Sin District Council and other district personalities to listen to their views on law and order matters and other community issues.

Mr Lai then proceeded to Ho Fu Neighbourhood Centre for Senior Citizens (sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen) to learn about the variety of services provided by the centre for senior citizens in the community.

Based on the community care service concept, Ho Fu Neighbourhood Centre for Senior Citizens provides diverse activities and community support services at the neighbourhood level with a view to enriching elderly people's lives. Mr Lai enjoyed a music and dance performance by some of the centre's elderly members. He was pleased to learn that they are able to build self-esteem, unleash their potential and establish harmonious interpersonal relationships by participating in group activities and community work.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Lai went to the Choi Wan Rhenish Integrated Children and Youth Services Centre where he was briefed about the centre's youth services. He chatted with young people there and urged them to stay away from drugs. He also encouraged youngsters to make good use of their leisure time by joining healthy activities which are beneficial to their growth and development.

The Choi Wan Rhenish Integrated Children and Youth Services Centre was established in 2002. It provides a wide range of integrated youth services for the local community including personal growth programmes for children and youth, family life education and community support services.
