********************************************************

Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) and the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) today (June 25) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) pledging mutual co-operation on investment promotion exchanges and best practices.

The MOU was signed by the Director-General of Investment Promotion, Dr Simon Galpin, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Thailand BOI, Ms Ajarin Pattanapanchai, in the presence of the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Mr Pridiyathorn Devakula.

Mr So said, "In an era of globalisation, Thai companies can make use of Hong Kong to tap into the vast Mainland market. Hong Kong companies can make use of Thailand to capture opportunities in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. The signing of the MOU today will strengthen the synergy between us."

Mr Pridiyathorn said, "Hong Kong is regarded as the global and regional business centre with businessmen and companies from all over the world investing in Hong Kong. Thailand likewise can be regarded as the centre of ASEAN, a true regional trading and investment hub in Southeast Asia. The signing of the MOU will induce and promote increasing investment co-operation between Hong Kong and Thailand."

The MOU provides a framework to enhance the close relationship for the mutual benefit of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Thailand in promoting both inward and outward investment in the two jurisdictions. According to the MOU, both sides will exchange information on the investment environment and investment opportunities with a view to promoting investment between the HKSAR and Thailand and share experiences in attracting foreign investment as well as best practices regarding investment promotion. The two agencies will encourage interested local companies in setting up or expanding their businesses in the area of the other jurisdictions.
