The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (June 18) continued his visit in Tianjin to promote Hong Kong.

In the morning, Mr So visited the China (Tianjin) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) to learn about its latest developments. He toured the Central Business District of Binhai New Area and was briefed on the plan and operation of the New Area.

Mr So then met with the Acting Secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, the Mayor of Tianjin, Mr Huang Xingguo, and the Executive Vice Mayor of Tianjin, Mr Duan Chunhua, separately to exchange views on the economic and trade relations of Hong Kong and Tianjin.

Noting that the Tianjin Pilot FTZ is the only free trade zone in northern China, Mr So said the establishment of the FTZ will definitely attract Hong Kong companies to set up a base there. It will provide a more favourable environment for business and a platform to facilitate smooth co-operation between Hong Kong and Tianjin. He added that Hong Kong possesses professionals in the legal, accounting, advertising and marketing sectors. With global perspectives and innovative thinking, Hong Kong can help Tianjin enterprises to open up business opportunities and promote brand-building so as to enhance their competitiveness.

While in Tianjin, Mr So also attended a fruitful gathering with Hong Kong people and enterprises in Beijing and Tianjin to learn more about business opportunities offered in northern China. He exchanged views with participants on how to enhance co-operation and exchanges in economic and business areas between Hong Kong and Tianjin.

Tomorrow (June 19), Mr So will officiate and speak at the opening ceremony for the 2015 Hong Kong Trendy Products Expo and the Tianjin Hong Kong Brand Festival.
