"Discover the Basic Law" exhibition now at Sunshine City Plaza in Ma On Shan (with photos)
*********************************************************

The "Discover the Basic Law" multimedia and interactive art exhibition moved to Sunshine City Plaza in Ma On Shan today (June 16). The event is one of a series of roving exhibitions organised to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law.

The artworks on display were created by 18 students from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) who used the Basic Law as a source of artistic inspiration. The exhibition showcases a total of 25 artworks including illustrations, installations, typographic designs, sculptures and motion graphics.

The largest exhibit is a sculpture entitled "Book of life". With Basic Law inscriptions on two open pages, the book forms the foundation of two trees with branches showing the words "Rights" and "Freedoms". This shows that under the Basic Law, Hong Kong's rights and freedoms are protected and can be further developed.

Another attraction is a sculpture entitled "Country¡PFamily" featuring the Chinese characters for "Country" and "Family". The creative idea is to show a close relationship between the Mainland (represented by "Country") and Hong Kong (represented by "Family") after Hong Kong's return to the Motherland, and that Hong Kong is an inalienable part of China.

A fun activity for the visitors is to "discover" the hidden content, including motion graphics, within several "blank" video screens using special hand-held viewing glasses.

Members of the public can also see the artworks on the Discover the Basic Law website at www.discoverthebasiclaw.gov.hk or via the mobile app "Discover the Basic Law".

The exhibition is organised by the Information Services Department in partnership with the HKDI with the aim of promoting a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the Basic Law in the community.

The exhibition is being held at Atrium B, 2/F, Sunshine City Plaza, Ma On Shan, New Territories until June 22. The opening hours are from 10am to 10pm. Admission is free and souvenirs will be distributed at the venue on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Discover the Basic Law roving exhibitions will be staged at different venues until the end of the year. Upcoming exhibition dates and venues will be available on the dedicated website.
