Applicants for Public Light Bus driving licence on or after June 1 required to attend pre-service course
************************************************************

A spokesman for the Transport Department (TD) today (May 29) reminded members of the public that those who apply for a Public Light Bus (PLB) driving licence on or after June 1, 2015 will be required to attend and complete a pre-service course before being issued with the PLB driving licence.

With a view to improving the driving attitude of PLB drivers and enhancing the safety and service quality of PLBs, the Road Traffic Ordinance (Cap 374) and the Road Traffic (Driving Licences) Regulations (Cap 374B) were amended to require applicants for a PLB driving licence on or after June 1, 2015 to attend and complete a pre-service course for PLB drivers, which is offered by pre-service training schools designated by the TD, before the applicants are issued with the licence.

The 16-hour pre-service course covers PLB operations, occupational health, PLB structure, safe driving and road safety, major contributing factors for traffic accidents and handling emergencies, customer services and handling complaints, and other items. Participants who have completed the course and passed the course-end assessment will obtain a course certificate issued by the designated pre-service training schools.

The pre-service course applies to those who apply for a PLB driving licence on or after June 1 this year. The eligibility for driving PLBs of incumbent drivers and existing holders of PLB driving licenses will not be affected.

Details of the pre-service course are available at the TD's website www.td.gov.hk. For enquiries, please call 2804 2600.
