The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, concluded his visit to Stockholm and London yesterday (May 14, London time) after visiting a number of pioneer financial technologies (Fintech) companies in London.
Professor Chan started the day by joining a roundtable breakfast with key Fintech stakeholders arranged by Level39, one of the largest technology accelerators in Europe for finance, retail, cyber security and future cities technology companies. He learnt more about the Fintech ecosystem and views on government support to financial innovations.
Professor Chan then visited Digital Shadows, a Fintech company providing cyber security services, and was briefed on the company's operation and case of success.
Besides, to understand more about equity crowdfunding platform for start-ups, Professor Chan visited Seedrs, the first equity crowdfunding platform to receive regulatory approval from the country's Financial Conduct Authority in 2012.
Professor Chan ended his trip by visiting TransferWise and Accenture, which provide money transfer and Fintech support services respectively, to learn more about their operation.
Professor Chan started his visit to London on May 13 (London time), and had exchanges with government officials and financial regulator to foster financial co-operation. He also promoted Hong Kong's financial and Renminbi businesses at a seminar at London Business School.
Professor Chan was in Stockholm and London between May 10 and 14 to forge closer ties and to keep abreast of developments in the Fintech industry in these two places. He will be back in Hong Kong this afternoon (May 15, Hong Kong time).
