Opening remarks by SEN at press conference on Energy Saving Plan for Hong Kong's Built Environment 2015~2025+
************************************************************

Following are the opening remarks by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, at today's (May 14) press conference on the Energy Saving Plan for Hong Kong's Built Environment 2015~2025+:

Today we unveiled the Energy Saving Plan for the Built Environment 2015~2025+, which sets for Hong Kong a new target of reducing energy intensity by 40 per cent by 2025. The plan is the first-ever energy saving blueprint for Hong Kong. It analyses energy use in Hong Kong and sets out the policy, strategy, target and key actions that can help Hong Kong achieve the new target.

More than half of our total annual energy use is in the form of electricity consumption, and buildings account for about 90 per cent of the electricity use in the city. Promoting green buildings and enhancing building energy saving have been one of our top priorities. The Government will take actions in four aspects embracing economic, regulatory, educational and social initiatives.

To achieve our new target of reducing energy intensity by 40 per cent by 2025, the community must take collective actions to change behaviour and to invest in more energy efficient products, technologies and practice for our future. Be "Energy Aware" and "Energy Wise".

     Thank you.
