SFST to visit Stockholm and London

     The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, will visit Stockholm in Sweden and London in the UK from May 10 to 14 (Sunday to Thursday) to learn more about the latest developments in financial technologies (Fintech) and to promote Hong Kong as the world's leading offshore Renminbi hub.

     During the visit, Professor Chan will meet with senior government officials and financial regulators to better understand their efforts to promote Fintech and create an environment to facilitate related developments.

     He will also visit pioneer Fintech companies and meet with major market players that provide innovative online and mobile payment services, money transfer, cyber security and crowdfunding platforms for start-ups, with a view to keeping abreast of the ecosystem and application of Fintech in these two places.

     In addition, he will meet with prominent figures of the Stockholm Stock Exchange and the financial and banking sectors in both places to discuss financial co-operation and encourage investment opportunities.

     Professor Chan will also give keynote speeches on Hong Kong's role as China's global financial centre and Renminbi internationalisation at the Stockholm School of Economics and London Business School respectively. In addition, to strengthen ties, he will attend roundtable and luncheon meetings to be hosted by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong Association in London.

     Professor Chan will return to Hong Kong from London on May 15.
