Government proposes to allow reclamation works north of airport

     The Government proposes to allow the Airport Authority Hong Kong to carry out reclamation works within an area of about 1 640 hectares at the foreshore and seabed to the north of the Hong Kong International Airport for the expansion of the airport into a three-runway system.

     The works include formation of about 650 hectares of land by ground improvement and filling of the seabed; construction of seawall, approach lights and beacons; and diversion of one set of the existing 11 kilovolt submarine cables of about 6 kilometres in length.

     The proposed works are scheduled to commence in mid-2016 and to complete by late 2022. The extent of the area affected is stated in a notice published today (May 8) in the Government Gazette (www.gld.gov.hk/egazette/pdf/20151919/egn201519193319.pdf).

     The notice together with its related plan is posted on notice boards near the site. The plan can also be seen at the Lands Department Survey and Mapping Office, 23/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong (where copies can be purchased on order); at the Islands District Office, 20/F, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central, Hong Kong; at the Tuen Mun District Office, 2/F, Tuen Mun Government Offices, 1 Tuen Hi Road, Tuen Mun, New Territories; and on the Lands Department's website (www.landsd.gov.hk) under Government Notices.

     Any person who considers that he or she has an interest, right or easement in or over the foreshore and seabed involved may submit a written objection to the Director of Lands, 20/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong, by July 8, 2015.
