Special Stamp Issue - "Government Vessels" (with photos)
********************************************************

Hongkong Post today (May 6) announced that a set of special stamps on "Government Vessels" together with associated philatelic products will be released for sale on May 21 (Thursday).

To ensure the safe and efficient operation of one of the busiest ports in the world and to support the provision of a wide range of marine services, several Hong Kong Government departments maintain specialised vessels. Some of these are purpose-built and equipped with advanced facilities designed to perform a diverse range of duties, such as inspection and quarantine, water quality control, patrolling, firefighting and hydrographic works, among others.

In recognition of their notable contribution to upholding law and order and safeguarding public safety, Hongkong Post will issue a set of six special stamps to depict specialist vessels from six government departments. These vessels stand out against a grey background showing local landscapes, which add local interest to the stamps.

A vessel-shaped stamp sheetlet will be issued to echo the stamp theme. The stamp sheetlet features six government vessels assembled in a line and ready to perform their duties.

Along with the mint stamps and the stamp sheetlet, a prestige stamp booklet providing further information on each government vessel depicted on the special stamps will also be issued.

Official First Day Covers will be on sale at $1.20 each at all post offices from May 7. The stamps and the associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from May 7 to 13.

Information about this special stamp issue and the associated philatelic products is available on Hongkong Post's website at www.hongkongpost.hk and via the Hongkong Post Mobile App.
