A safety supervisor was fined $5,000 at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Court today (April 30) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance in that he failed to comply with the request made to him by an Occupational Safety Officer of the Labour Department for making such examination and inquiry in relation to a fatal industrial accident as might be necessary to ascertain whether the requirements of the Ordinance were compiled with. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The judgment clearly shows that the department will spare no effort to combat offences related to failure to comply with a requirement made by occupational safety officer under the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and will bring the person contravening the law to justice.
