**********************************************************

Following is the speech by the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, at a reception to commend Hong Kong teams' inventions for winning awards at the 43rd International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva today (April 28):

Consul General, Fanny (Law), Nick (Yang), distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Good afternoon. In Hong Kong, we don't always celebrate successes, although Hong Kong's not short of successes, and in the space of innovation we definitely do not celebrate successes enough. And this is why we're gathered here this afternoon, because we want to hear from the innovators of Hong Kong as to how they succeeded in the Geneva competition.

I would like to thank the Consul General for joining today's reception to celebrate with us, and these are remarkable accomplishments of Hong Kong for us to celebrate, these remarkable achievements, at the recent, 43rd International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. I should now, if you may allow me, Consul General, to switch onto the other channel and continue in Cantonese so that I could deliver my personal congratulations to our local heroes.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the speech.)
