Fatal traffic accident in Kowloon City

     Police today (April 14) appealed to the public for information on a fatal traffic accident in Kowloon City on April 9 in which a 20-year-old woman died.

     About 9.19pm on that day, a taxi and a cement pump truck were traveling along Waterloo Road towards Tsim Sha Tsui direction in sequence. When approaching Hereford Road, the truck rammed into the rear part of the taxi, and the taxi then hit a 19-year-old male pedestrian who was crossing the road. The truck continued moving forward and crashed into a 20-year-old female pedestrian who was crossing the road. The female was once trapped underneath the truck and was rescued by firemen.

     The male pedestrian, in conscious state, sustained head and leg injuries while the female pedestrian sustained multiple serious injuries and was unconscious. The 57-year-old male taxi driver and a 43-year-old female taxi passenger were slightly injured. The four injured people were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. The female pedestrian was certified dead at 9.15am today.

     The 63-year-old truck driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. Another 27-year-old male driver of a vehicle escorting the truck was arrested for aiding and abetting dangerous driving causing death. The arrestees have been released on bail pending further enquiries and are required to report back to Police in mid-April.

     Active investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon West are underway.
