Musicians to perform band and Chinese music in Joint Concerts of Music Office Bands and Orchestras

     Young musicians from bands and Chinese orchestras will perform an array of works at the final two joint concerts to be presented by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in May.

     The band concert will be held at 8pm on May 9 (Saturday) at the Theatre of Ko Shan Theatre, featuring three bands, namely the Music Office Youth Brass Band, the Kowloon Youth Symphonic Band and the New Territories Youth Symphonic Band. Under the batons of conductors Hanson Tsang, Henry Cheng, Palas Chan, Dr Darren Ho, Au Wai-see, Desmond Tse and Lee Sing-wan, the bands will perform works including Caudill's "Folklore for Band" arranged by Blanken, Mendelssohn's "Concertpiece No. 2" arranged by Gee and Disney animation tunes in "Symphonic Highlights from Frozen".

     The Chinese orchestra concert will be held at 3pm on May 10 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall. The performing groups will be the Music Office Children's Chinese Orchestra, the Kowloon Youth Chinese Orchestra, the New Territories Youth Chinese Orchestra and the Island Youth Chinese Orchestra. Conducted by Eddy Tse, Tsang Chi-wai, Bosco Kwok, Carol Fong, Loo Sze-wang, Cheung Hiu-fai, Nero Lee, Chin King, Cheung Wai-fung, Li Ping and Chan King-tsun, the groups will play an array of Chinese music works, including Xu Jingxin's "Wind", Lo Leung-fai's "Wine Song", Liu Tieshan and Mao Yuan's "Dance of the Yao People" arranged by Peng Xiuwen and Huang Haihuai's "Horse Racing" arranged by Qu Chunquan.

     Tickets priced at $20, $40 and $60 for these two concerts are available at URBTIX from today (April 9) and tomorrow (April 10) respectively. Half-price concessions apply to full-time students, people with disabilities and their minders, senior citizens aged 60 and above and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.      The first two joint concerts, featuring junior groups and string orchestras and ensembles, will be held on April 12 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Kwai Tsing Theatre and April 18 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Yuen Long Theatre respectively. Tickets are now available at URBTIX.
