Special stamp issue: "Sports in Hong Kong" (with photos)
********************************************************

Hongkong Post today (April 8) announced that a set of special stamps, "Sports in Hong Kong", will be released for sale with associated philatelic products on April 23 (Thursday).

Sport is a healthy pursuit that underpins a healthy lifestyle. There is a diverse range of sports facilities throughout the territory to encourage public participation. A wide variety of sporting events at both territory-wide and district levels are organised all year round. Moreover, the achievements of Hong Kong athletes in international competitions are a constant source of pride for the local community.

This special stamp issue depicts six popular sports in Hong Kong as selected by the public in an online voting exercise, "My Favourite Sports", organised by Hongkong Post in early 2014, namely cycling, table tennis, football, athletics, badminton and swimming. The six stamps show athletes in action, each with a silhouette of the sportsperson against a colourful background. To echo the sports theme, Hongkong Post has made this its first-ever set of thermochromically printed stamps. The silhouettes of the athletes are printed in thermochromic ink and they change colour with changes in temperature. The overall stamp designs convey a sense of the action-packed and energy-charged nature of sports.

Official First Day Covers will be on sale at $1.20 each at all post offices from tomorrow (April 9). The stamps and the associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from tomorrow to April 15.

Information about this special stamp issue and associated philatelic products is available from Hongkong Post's website at www.hongkongpost.hk and via the Hongkong Post Mobile App.
