Operator and manager fined for illegal club operation
*****************************************************

A man and a woman were fined $10,000 and $3,000 respectively at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (March 25) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance (the Ordinance).

The courts heard that in August last year, officers from the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department conducted an inspection at a club on Hart Avenue, Tsim Sha Tsui, which had been operating with a certificate of compliance (CoC).

OLA officers found that the number of people at the club during the inspection exceeded the maximum allowable capacity as stipulated in the CoC. The club staff also failed to show the registered drawings upon the OLA officers' request. Conditions 6 and 17 of the CoC were breached.

The man, being the CoC holder of the club, and the female manager were charged with contravening section 21(2) and 21(1) of the Ordinance respectively.

A spokesman for the department reminded all CoC holders to comply with the conditions as stipulated therein. Enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal club operations.
