The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore, Mr Fong Ngai, spoke on Hong Kong's strengths to some 50 members of the Hong Kong Singapore Business Association (HSBA) at a business luncheon in Singapore today (March 24).

Mr Fong briefed the participants on the latest initiatives in the 2015 Policy Address and the 2015-16 Budget, providing an update on the city's diversified economy, cultural vibrancy and political development.

"Hong Kong is a dynamic and vibrant city which keeps on evolving. Our four pillar industries, namely trading and logistics, financial services, business and professional services and tourism, are highly competitive. Together with our wide range of new industries, including start-ups, social enterprises and cultural and creative industries, they make available diverse and quality career and investment opportunities in Hong Kong," he said.

"If more Hong Kong people, especially our young people, could pursue their dreams and do their best, the self-motivated drive would unleash their innovative and creative powers, thereby elevating and diversifying our economy. Hong Kong will continue to thrive. Hong Kong and its neighbours, including Singapore, will also continue to share in each other's success," he said.

He added that the rule of law, freedom of expression and openness to the world remain Hong Kong's hallmarks. Excellent universities and an eclectic mix of creative industries as well as vibrant and dynamic cultures add to the recipe for success.

"The future economic success of Hong Kong depends on the powers of individuals in Hong Kong. Hong Kong always emerges stronger every time after crisis as Hong Kong people always see crisis as a turning point for opportunities," he said.
