Labour Advisory Board By-election of Employee Representative to be held on March 14

     The Labour Advisory Board (LAB) By-election of Employee Representative will be held on March 14 (Saturday) at Wan Chai Activities Centre located at LG/F, Wan Chai Market, 258 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, for filling the vacancy of an elected employee representative of the current 2015-16 term. The Labour Department received three valid nominations of candidates from employee unions registered under the Trade Unions Ordinance during the nomination period from January 9 to February 2, 2015.

     The candidates, listed in the order of nomination forms received by the Labour Department, are:

* Mr Anderson Chan Che-bun
Chairman,
Buildings Department Local Building Surveyors' Association

* Mr Charles Chan Yiu-kwong
Deputy Chairman,
Hong Kong Civil Servants General Union

* Mr Lam Yau
Chairman,
Hong Kong Jingjin Practitioner General Union

     A total of 395 employee unions registered as electors have appointed authorised representatives to vote in the by-election. These electors will soon be informed in writing of the candidate list and detailed proceedings on the by-election day. Authorised representatives may cast their votes at the polling station at Wan Chai Activities Centre, LG/F, Wan Chai Market, between 11am and 4pm on the by-election day of March 14.

     A representative of the Registry of Trade Unions and the candidates will be present on the by-election day to supervise the counting of votes. Assistant Commissioner for Labour Ms Mabel Li will act as Returning Officer.

     From February 13 onwards, the lists of candidates and electors as well as the by-election rules and procedures will be available at the website of the Labour Department (www.labour.gov.hk/eng/news/content.htm). Enquiries on matters relating to the by-election can be made at 2852 4024.

     The LAB is a tripartite consultative body comprising representatives of employees and employers to advise the Commissioner for Labour on labour matters. During their term of office, LAB members will also serve on the Standard Working Hours Committee as ex-officio members by virtue of their LAB membership. A vacancy has emerged in the current term of the LAB owing to the passing away of an elected employee representative.
