Company fined for illegal club operation
****************************************

A company was fined $8,200 at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (February 10) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The courts heard that in July last year, the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department conducted an inspection at a club on Percival Street in Causeway Bay which has been operating with a certificate of compliance (CoC). During the investigation, the club staff failed to show the CoC or the certified true copy, a copy of the latest certificate of fire services installations and equipment, and the registered drawings upon the OLA officers' request. Conditions 2, 10, and 17 of the CoC were breached. The club was also found to be operating under a name other than the one indicated on the CoC on the day of inspection.

The company, being the CoC holder, was charged with contravening sections 21(2) and 21(1)(c) of the Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department reminded all CoC holders to comply with the conditions as stipulated therein. Enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal club operations.
