Territory-wide year-end clean-up campaign launched (with photo)
*********************************************************

With the approach of the Year of the Goat, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (January 26) commenced a three-week major clean-up campaign across the territory.

"To welcome the new year, the annual year-end clean-up campaign has been launched to call for public support for maintaining cleanliness in the household, the community and public areas," an FEHD spokesman said.

The year-end clean-up operation will continue until February 15. During the campaign period, the FEHD will step up the cleaning of public facilities such as markets, cooked food centres and hawker bazaars under the department's management. Cleaning and pest control measures will be enhanced in all districts and additional temporary refuse collection points will be set up for people to discard large items of household waste.

The spokesman also urged stallholders to clean  their stalls and reminded operators of food premises to pay attention to the hygienic conditions of their premises.

"To ensure the cleanliness of public places we will also strengthen enforcement action and issue Fixed Penalty Notices to offenders in breach of the Fixed Penalty (Public Cleanliness Offences) Ordinance for littering, spitting, illegal posting of bills or posters, feeding of pigeons or other feral birds causing dirtiness to public places, and dog fouling," the spokesman said.

"Maintaining a clean and hygienic community hinges on the concerted efforts of residents and people working in the district. We hope everyone can enjoy a cleaner environment in the Year of the Goat," the spokesman added.
