Home Affairs Bureau co-operates with Po Leung Kuk to promote youth hostel project
************************************************************

The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, chaired the Po Leung Kuk Joint Meeting of the Advisory Board and the Board 2014/2015 today (January 23). At the meeting it was agreed to actively promote the implementation of the youth hostel project at Ma Tin Pok in Yuen Long.

Dr Lee Shau-kee recently announced his donation of a piece of land with an area of more than 60,000 square feet at Ma Tin Pok in Yuen Long to the Po Leung Kuk for the construction of a youth hostel. The Po Leung Kuk has submitted the content of the project plan to the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) for review. The HAB will consult relevant government departments on the technical feasibility of the project. If the project is technically feasible and the estimation of its construction cost is reasonable, the HAB will give policy support to implement the project under the framework of the Youth Hostel Scheme.

Mr Tsang said, "The Po Leung Kuk project would be a key facility for the youth upon implementation. I hope that all parties concerned will seize this opportunity and prepare for building youth hostels as well as future ancillary services for our youth."

Under the HAB's Youth Hostel Scheme, four existing projects are being handled by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Hong Kong Association of Youth Development and the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association respectively. These projects are progressing well in accordance with established procedures. Upon completion of the procedure, the HAB will seek funding approval from the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council.
