Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, after attending a radio programme today (January 19):
Reporter: ... country parks for development, what about using brownfield sites instead?
Secretary for the Environment: I am saying that the Development Bureau is not going to have any plan to use country parks for making land for housing development. According to their announcement, they are trying various means to look for land to meet the housing shortage need. From our perspective, we are having an established mechanism to strike a balance between development and conservation. For instance, if they are going to have any development, they have to meet various environmental control aspects including air and nature conservation. So, if they have any proposal, they have to meet the requirements on a case-by-case basis.
