Artocrite Theater to perform "The Cans" in February
***************************************************

Hong Kong-based Artocrite Theater will perform its new work, entitled "The Cans", in February. The production is also the finale of the New Energy Series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

The story begins as novelist David decides to visit a lunatic asylum to get inspiration for a book. He finds the faces of the strangers that he meets eerily familiar, and behind each is an untold secret. Without knowing it, David is piecing together fragments of his terrifying past.

"The Cans" is written by Birdy Wong and co-directed by Wong and Chan Kiu. The cast comprises Birdy Wong, Raymond Wan, Pun Kim-chau, Ronald Lam and Wong Chiu-yum.

Artocrite Theater was founded in 2010 by six graduates from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, namely Lo Fu-tai, Pun Kim-chau, Raymond Wan, Birdy Wong, Wong Chiu-yum and Yung Ching-nam. The company believes art should follow a multi-faceted path of development so the founders decided to seek their own artistic direction. In 2012, the company produced "Endtime Monsters", which has received critical acclaim from theatrical circles. The production was selected to appear in the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre International Black Box Festival 2014.

"The Cans" will be performed in Cantonese at 8pm from February 13 to 15 (Friday to Sunday) and 3pm on February 14 and 15 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Black Box Theatre of the Kwai Tsing Theatre. Tickets priced at $160 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for the New Energy Series and group booking packages. This programme contains adult content, coarse language, nudity and violent scenes, and is suitable for ages 12 or above.

Other programmes in the New Energy Series include "In a Breath" by the Hong Kong Dramatists (January 16 to 18) and "My Dream Home Gone" by BHT Theatre (February 6 to 8).
