SCS visits Tuen Mun District (with photos)
******************************************

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Paul Tang, today (January 5) visited Tuen Mun District to learn about the latest developments in the district and to meet with Tuen Mun District Council members.

Accompanied by the District Officer (Tuen Mun), Mr David Lau, Mr Tang first visited Tin Hau Temple Plaza and the Fa Pau Exhibition Hall. Tin Hau Temple Plaza is the most popular open space available for large-scale outdoor activities in Tuen Mun. Major annual functions held at the Plaza include the Tin Hau Festival Parade cum Fa Pau Lots Drawing Ceremony, the Chinese New Year Fair and the Free Meal for the Elderly, allowing active participation and enjoyment by the local residents and visitors. Located in the plaza, the Fa Pau Exhibition Hall displays three full-size mock-ups of Fa Pau, panels, images and photographs, providing visitors with valuable information on the Hau Kok Tin Hau Temple, the Tin Hau Festival and related folk customs (e.g. the Fa Pau Competition).

Mr Tang noted that the former Chief Executive announced in his 2007-08 Policy Address that the Government would give priority to the beautification works along the Tuen Mun River. To follow up on this commitment, the Home Affairs Department set up a Task Force on Tuen Mun River Beautification Scheme to steer and monitor project planning and implementation by government and non-government organisations.

Later, Mr Tang proceeded to Lung Yat Estate, where he was briefed by staff on greening provisions including the optimum use of natural lighting and ventilation, use of solar street lights and planting of greenery on the rooftops of some buildings in the estate so as to enhance the quality of the living environment.

Mr Tang then paid a visit to Lung Yat Community Hall, opened in 2014, which is the 10th Community Hall serving the district. Apart from the green architectural design, there are plans to arrange the display of local artworks under the Art@Government Buildings project to create a fresh artistic environment so that residents can appreciate art in public places easily.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Tang had a tea gathering with the Tuen Mun District Council Chairman, Mr Lau Wong-fat, and other District Council members to listen to their views on various developments in the district and other matters of community concern.
