Pants Theatre Production to stage award-winning production "Laramie Project"
***********************************************************

Pants Theatre Production will perform "Laramie Project", a classic of contemporary documentary theatre by Moisˆms Kaufman, in February and March.

The work has won numerous prizes including an award from the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table of the American Library Association and a GLAAD Media Award as well as nominations for the Lucille Lortel Awards and the Drama Desk Awards. Pants Theatre Production first presented "The Laramie Project" as a reading in 2013 and won a highly enthusiastic response. The fully staged production to be performed in 2015 will demonstrate why the work is a documentary theatre classic of our time.

In 1998, news from the small mid-west town of Laramie rocked America. Twenty-one-year-old college student Matthew Shepard was brutally beaten, tied to a fence in a ranch and left to die. He later died in hospital. Moisˆms Kaufman led members of his company to visit the town and made over 200 interviews, which culminated in a major work of contemporary documentary theatre. Even without resorting to pathos or violence, the production was soul-grabbing and it took American theatre by storm, winning numerous theatre awards.

Wu Hoi-fai is responsible for the translation and is also the director of the Hong Kong production. Gladys Wong is the producer. Performers include Char Kwok-lam, Masu Wong, Rick Cheung, Sit Hoi-fai, Sung Boon-ho, Tam Tsz-ling, Tang Yim-ling and Kiki Ng.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), "Laramie Project" by Pants Theatre Production (to be performed in Cantonese) will be staged at 8pm on February 27 and 28 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on February 28 and March 1 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Theatre of Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre.
