Sha Tin Festival-Jockey Club FAMILY 3Hs Fun Fest begins (with photos)

     The opening ceremony for the Sha Tin Festival-Jockey Club FAMILY 3Hs Fun Fest was held today (December 26) at Sha Tin Sports Ground, launching the three-day fun fest. The fun fest aims to create a happy environment for all to enjoy while promoting family health, happiness and harmony (3Hs) through a variety of entertaining performances and games.

     Fun games include bubble football, archery tag, experiencing archery, laser war game, power paddle lagoon, screamer slides, high striker, horse-riding and Xbox. Other entertainment includes Scottish piper marching, a jazz band, magic and clown performances as well as free snacks, instant photo-taking, balloons and gifts. The carnival is open from 11am to 6pm and admission is free. Free shuttle bus services are also provided between G/F, Exit B, MTR Sha Tin Station and Sha Tin Sports Ground at intervals of around 15 minutes.

     Officiating at the opening ceremony were the Under Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan; the Chairman of Sha Tin District Council (STDC), Mr Ho Hau-cheung; the District Officer (Sha Tin), Ms Cora Ho; the Vice Chairman of STDC, Mr Pang Cheung-wai; the President of Sha Tin Festival Committee 2014 (STFC2014), Mr Frankie Wu; the Chairman of STFC2014, Mr Jacko Lee; the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Executive Manager, Charities, Ms Imelda Chan; FAMILY Project Principal Investigator, Professor Lam Tai-hing; and the Vice-chairman of STFC2014, Mr Yiu Ka-chun.

     The flagship event of this year's Sha Tin Festival, the fun fest is co-organised by the STFC2014 and Sha Tin District Office, sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and supported by the School of Public Health at the University of Hong Kong.

     Under the theme "We are Sha Tin", the Sha Tin Festival 2014 is being held from September 8, 2014 to March 1, 2015. During the festival, a wide range of cultural, leisure, sports, arts and caring activities are being organised to showcase the diverse characteristics of new town life and the uniqueness of Sha Tin District. Residents are encouraged to take part in the community activities to strengthen their sense of belonging to the community.
