The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority:

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today (December 22) announces that during the festive season, the two "Coin Carts" under the Coin Collection Programme will continue to provide service with normal service hours during public holidays on December 25 and 26 from 9am to 7pm. For the week between December 22 and 28, the two Coin Carts are stationing at Shan King Estate in Tuen Mun District and Wan Tau Tong Estate in Tai Po District respectively. The service schedule and other details of the Programme are shown on the HKMA webpage (coincollection.hkma.gov.hk).

The two Coin Carts completed the first cycle of serving the 18 districts from October 6 to December 14, with 40,000 people using the service. During the first cycle, the HKMA collected 37 million coins with a total face value of HK$33 million. The collected coins are re-circulated to meet public demand.

We encourage members of the public to use our service during the festive season and wish everyone a Merry Christmas (www.hkma.gov.hk/eng/other-information/xmas/xmas_2014.html).
