WSD enhances e-Bill Service (with photos)
*****************************************

To encourage the public to reduce paper consumption, the Water Supplies Department (WSD) has recently enhanced its e-Bill Service by providing more options for registration and email reminders for payment as well as online service for checking water consumption records in the past two years.

The Director of Water Supplies, Mr Enoch Lam, officiated at the Simplified "e-Bill Service" Launching Ceremony cum World Water Monitoring Challenge 2014 at Ma On Shan Water Treatment Works today (December 20). Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lam said, "By enhancing the e-Bill Service, we hope to promote the reduction of paper consumption, thereby minimising water and electricity consumption and waste water generation during the process of paper production."

In addition to the WSD's website (www.wsd.gov.hk), the public can register for the e-Bill Service through the "WSD mobile app", the WSD's customer service hotline (2824 5000) and customer enquiry centres. Every successful applicant is entitled to receive a pair of complimentary flow controllers for water taps. Details are available on the WSD's website.

Mr Lam said the department is currently studying enhancements in the design of water bills by highlighting the customer's water consumption level and providing the average household water consumption of the respective housing estate for the customer's reference. He said he hoped that customers with high water consumption levels will be motivated to save water.

The World Water Monitoring Challenge 2014 was held at the same venue today. The event aims to raise students' awareness of protecting water resources. Fifty students from four secondary schools were invited to carry out tests of the raw water quality of Ma On Shan Water Treatment Works by measuring four key indicators: temperature, acidity, dissolved oxygen and turbidity. The test results will be uploaded to the database of the World Water Monitoring Challenge. More details are available at the dedicated website (www.worldwatermonitoringday.org).
