Support social enterprises at HKBPE and enjoy caring consumption
*****************************************************

It's time for Christmas and New Year shopping. To support caring consumption and make your shopping more meaningful, why not patronise the social enterprise (SE) booths at the 49th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo (HKBPE) to be held in Victoria Park, Causeway Bay, from this Saturday (December 13) to January 5 next year?

Thirteen SEs funded under the Enhancing Self-Reliance Through District Partnership Programme (ESR Programme) of the Home Affairs Department (HAD) will take turns to showcase a variety of products and services in the HKBPE.

The SEs will exhibit at the designated SE zone covering booths No. 4A01 to 4A05 at the venue. Products and services include healthy and organic food, household products, clothes and accessories, rehabilitation products and eco-friendly products. Some participating SEs will give out discount coupons and provide health check-ups and demonstrations of ethnic hand painting on-site. People purchasing products at the SE booths will get a fine souvenir free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Please refer to the Annex for more details.

Since 2006, the ESR Programme has been providing seed grants for eligible non-profit-making organisations to set up SEs for the creation of job opportunities for the socially disadvantaged to enhance their skills and capabilities in order to enable their self-reliance and effective integration into society. Total funding of about $180 million has been approved to more than 160 SE projects for creating some 2 600 job opportunities.

The 49th HKBPE will be open from 11am to 10pm, and will close at 8pm on the last day of the exposition. Complimentary booths at the SE zone are offered once again by the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong. The HAD will also provide information on SEs at the scene. Admission tickets are $10 each. Children 1 metre tall or less, senior citizens aged 65 or above and persons with disabilities will be admitted free of charge.
