Labour Advisory Board to hold Employee Representative By-election

     The Labour Department (LD) today (December 5) announced that a Labour Advisory Board (LAB) By-Election of Employee Representative for the 2015-2016 term will be staged soon to fill a vacancy arising from the passing away of an elected employee representative.

     A spokesman for the LD said that the LD will arrange for an LAB By-Election of Employee Representative as soon as possible to fill the vacancy arising from the passing away of Mr Chung Kwok-sing, an employee representative. The LD will inform all employee unions registered under the Trade Unions Ordinance. Details will be announced in due course. Enquiries on matters relating to the by-election can be made at 2852 4024.

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, and the Commissioner for Labour cum ex-officio chairman of the LAB, Mr Donald Tong, expressed their deep condolences on the passing of Mr Chung Kwok-sing.

     "Mr Chung was committed to seeking improvement in employees' benefits. He contributed significantly to the work of the LAB and the Standard Working Hours Committee. He was highly respected by fellow civil servants and the labour sector. His amicable and sincere personality as well as his objective and fair handling of matters endeared him to all and sundry. On behalf of the Labour and Welfare Bureau, I would like to express our condolences to Mr Chung's family," Mr Cheung said.

     "Mr Chung made significant contributions to the LAB. He worked closely with the LD and with other LAB Members, and provided invaluable advice on major labour issues over the years. On behalf of the LD and the LAB, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family and to express our gratitude for the contributions he made to the LAB," Mr Tong said.

     The LAB is a tripartite consultative body comprising representatives of employees and employers to advise the Commissioner for Labour on labour matters. During their term of office, members of the LAB will also serve in the Standard Working Hours Committee as ex-officio members by virtue of their membership in the LAB.
