"In a Breath" to launch LCSD's "New Energy Series"
**************************************************

The Hong Kong Dramatists will perform local playwright Janice Poon's new work, entitled "In a Breath", in January next year to launch the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's "New Energy Series".

The story is about a life-changing decision that a person is unable to make. An old man is on his deathbed and, while his family members stay by his side, the doctors who are doing their utmost to revive him are faced with having to make an irrevocable decision. The family members heatedly discuss what they should do and the discussion reveals the family's long-hidden history. The dying man is left alone and is caught in a dilemma, but his whimper is drowned out by the quarrelling din.

"In a Breath" is written and directed by Janice Poon. Tsang Man-tung is the stage designer and sound coach. Besides performer and movement coach Lam Chun-ho, the high-calibre cast includes Hanks Li, Santayana Li and Tam Yuk-ting.

The Hong Kong Dramatists was established by a group of veteran theatre practitioners including Janice Poon and Indy Lee, aiming at creating and exploring new scripts and forms of theatre that represent local culture. It is a laboratory of new ideas, an incubation centre in which ideas can grow, and a creative community to support theatre artists in different stages of their creative needs and career development.

To be performed in Cantonese, "In a Breath" will be held at 8pm from January 16 to 18 (Friday to Sunday) and 3pm on January 17 and 18 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Black Box Theatre of the Kwai Tsing Theatre. Tickets priced at $160 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for the "New Energy Series" and group booking packages. This programme contains coarse language.

Other programmes in the "New Energy Series" include "My Dream Home Gone" by BHT Theatre (February 6 to 8) and "The Cans" by Artocrite Theater (February 13 to 15).
