Police condemn people illegally assembled endangering public order and public safety
************************************************************

Police condemned the acts of protesters who illegally assembled in Mong Kok, blocked roads and endangered public order and public safety last night (November 28) and in the small hours of today (November 29).

Last night, a large number of protesters gathered on Sai Yeung Choi Street South, Shantung Street and Soy Street and blocked the roads. Police issued multiple appeals, advice and warnings through public announcements and displaying warning banners at scene. However, the protesters refused to comply. They scattered around the area and created chaos. Some protesters even provoked and threw hard objects at police officers and charged at police check lines. Police, with no other alternatives, used the minimum level of force and took resolute actions, including using pepper spray and batons to stop the unlawful acts, and to disperse and arrest the protesters involved.

Some protesters placed large objects such as rubbish bins and recycling bins on Dundas Street between Fa Yuen Street and Nathan Road in an attempt to block the roads. Police swiftly removed the obstacles and arrested the people concerned.

From last night to 6am today, Police arrested 27 males and one female, aged between 16 and 52, in Mong Kok for offences including "Unlawful Assembly", "Assaulting Police", "Possession of Offensive Weapons", "Possession of Instrument Fit for Unlawful Purpose", "Obstructing Police Officer", "Possession of Part I Poison", "Disorderly Conduct in Public Place". During the operation, eight police officers were injured. Two of them were hit by hard objects thrown by protesters.

Police condemned the irresponsible acts of the protesters which disregarded safety of others and seriously endangered public order.  Police reiterate that resolute enforcement actions will be taken to preserve public order and safeguard public safety.
