Housing Authority sets rents for three new estates
**************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

Rents for 9 722 flats in 16 non-standard blocks of the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA)'s three new public rental housing (PRH) estates tentatively to be completed between January and June 2015 will be set at the current best rent levels of their respective districts.

The best rent at $68.4 per square metre per month for the flats in the Sha Tin district will apply to the 3 459 flats in five blocks in Shui Chuen O Estate (Sha Tin Area 52, Phase 2).

The best rent at $50.1 per square metre per month for the flats in the Sheung Shui district will apply to the 1 358 flats in two blocks in Cheung Lung Wai Estate (Sheung Shui Area 36 West).

The best rent at $47.1 per square metre per month for the flats in Yuen Long district will apply to the 4 905 flats in nine blocks in Hung Fuk Estate (Hung Shui Kiu Area 13, Phases 1, 2 and 3)

"Under this rent fixing exercise, more than 79 per cent of the flats are set at a rent level below $2,000 per month," a spokesman for the HA said today (November 19), adding that PRH rents, which are inclusive of rates, management fees and maintenance costs, are heavily subsidised.

"PRH applicants who are allocated new flats but cannot afford the rents may request refurbished flats at lower rents. They may also apply for assistance under the Rent Assistance Scheme for flats in older block types where applicable," the spokesman added.
