SJ visits Kowloon City (with photos)

     The Secretary for Justice, Mr Rimsky Yuen, SC, visited Kowloon City today (November 13) to better understand the provision of rehabilitation and community services in the district.

     Accompanied by the District Officer (Kowloon City), Mr William Tsui, Mr Yuen first visited the TWGHs Ho Yuk Ching Workshop cum Hostel at Hung Ling Street, Hung Hom, where he toured the workshop and hostel facilities and chatted with vocational rehabilitation trainees.

     The TWGHs Ho Yuk Ching Workshop cum Hostel provides employment support and residential services for the disabled. Diversified vocational training is provided at the sheltered workshop to help disabled persons prepare for employment while residential care, health care and living skills training are provided at the hostel to the moderately mentally handicapped.

     Mr Yuen then went to the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service Martha Boss Lutheran Community Centre at Chung Hau Street, Ho Man Tin, and visited the nursery, home for the aged and elderly centre there.

     Established in 1986, the community centre comprises an eight-storey main building and a connected three-storey building with facilities including a community hall and an open air stadium. It offers a wide range of services to children, youths, women, single elderly people, ethnic minorities and the underprivileged in the district.

     Before concluding his visit, Mr Yuen met with members of the Kowloon City District Council and exchanged views on a range of community issues.
