The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (November 9) highlighted Hong Kong's unique role as the super-connector in the region at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit 2014 in Beijing.

Addressing a discussion session entitled "The Global Economy Today: How Sustainable? How Fragile?" in the afternoon, Mr Leung said while the global economy has reached a critical moment, Hong Kong will continue to make best use of its advantageous position as the regional commercial and trade hub. Hong Kong will also work together with other APEC economies to find the essential momentum to move forward and to create economic growth that will strengthen APEC, which in turn will benefit the APEC region as a whole.

"Hong Kong's unique location on the southern coast of China, coupled with world-class infrastructure, international networking, financial expertise and related professional services support, has made us a great connector in the region on logistics, commercial and trade fronts," Mr Leung said.

"We are willing and eager to exchange experience and explore collaborative opportunities with APEC economies, and other forums, to strengthen the region's overall competitiveness," he added.

Earlier in the morning, the Chief Executive attended the opening session of the APEC CEO Summit, during which President Xi Jinping delivered his keynote speech. The Chief Executive then met President Xi and briefed him on Hong Kong's latest developments.

The Chief Executive will join other economic leaders for the APEC Business Advisory Council Dialogue tomorrow.
