*****************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Film Development Council:

The local premiere of the film "The Seventh Lie" will be held this evening (October 28). The production budget for the film was around $5 million, with government finance amounting to around $1.8 million.

Directed by emerging film director James Hung, "The Seventh Lie" is a fictional movie comprising four tales that depict the secrets and lies kept by couples living in modern cities.

The film has already won international awards, namely the Grand Jury Prize Narrative Film and Best Foreign Feature prizes at the 2014 Barcelona International Film Festival and the 2014 Philadelphia Independent Film Festival respectively.

The Chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC), Mr Ma Fung-kwok, said, "The FDF has once again financed a film production that engages up-and-coming filmmakers as we wish to provide them with more opportunities to unveil their talents.

"The international exposure gained by the film can help the director and his production team to build up their reputations, which is conducive to their future development. The FDC will continue to encourage the new generation of local filmmakers to participate in international film events in the hope that they can gain more valuable opportunities for attaining international achievements and promote Hong Kong films in overseas markets."

Since the Government injected $300 million into the FDF and expanded its scope to finance small- to medium-budget film productions in 2007, 30 applications have been approved involving total funding of $82.68 million.
