Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2014 - part of the METLIFE BWF World Superseries - to be held in November

     The Vice-Chairman of the Major Sports Events Committee (MSEC), Mr Terry Smith, today (October 28) officiated at a press conference for the Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2014.

     Speaking at the press conference, Mr Smith congratulated the Hong Kong Badminton Association (HKBA) on bringing this spectacular event, which showcases our ability to host large-scale international sports competitions and enhances Hong Kong's profile as a major centre for sports events in Asia.

     The tournament, sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation, will be held from November 18 to 23 at Hong Kong Coliseum. Players from all over the world will compete for prize money of US$350,000.

     In recognition of the event's significance in highlighting Hong Kong as a venue for international sports events, the MSEC has awarded "M" Mark status to the Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships for 10 consecutive years since 2005.

     Other guests at today's event included the Chairman of the Hong Kong Badminton Association, Mr Tong Wai-lun; the Head, Group Business Development of the Sunrise and Co Pte Ltd, Mr Harinder Garga; and the Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Hong Kong, Mr Lennard Yong.
