*******************************************

The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, today (October 7, Eastern Standard Time) continued his visit to New York.

Mr Tsang started the day by having a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of New York City, Ms Alicia Glen, and the President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, Mr Kyle Kimball. Mr Tsang and Ms Glen agreed that the two cities had much to learn from each other, given their similarity in size, population and industry mix. They briefly exchanged views on transport, housing and public finance issues.

At a luncheon hosted by the National Committee on United States-China Relations, Mr Tsang spoke on "Hong Kong's role in China's Financial Reform". Pointing out that the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect should bring unprecedented opportunities to the financial world, he encouraged US businessmen to explore such opportunities in Hong Kong. Mr Tsang also updated the participants on the recent protests in Hong Kong and their background.

Mr Tsang departed for Boston in the afternoon. On Friday (October 10), Mr Tsang will attend the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Washington, DC, as a member of the Chinese delegation.

Mr Tsang is currently on a three-city visit to New York, Boston and Washington aimed at maintaining close ties with the business sector and US officials as well as forging stronger trade ties between Hong Kong and the United States.
