************************************************************

The Tin Yip Road Artificial Sand Court in Tin Shui Wai, the first multi-purpose sand court in Yuen Long District, will open for use on October 8 (Wednesday).  With the adjacent Tin Yip Road Park also opening in late October, they are the latest recreational and sports facilities provided by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in the district.

Occupying an area of more than 2,700 square metres, the Tin Yip Road Artificial Sand Court is suitable for training sessions and competitions of beach volleyball or beach handball. It also provides facilities such as a spectator stand and shower rooms. The sand court will open from 8am to 10pm daily. It is reserved for beach volleyball every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and for beach handball every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It will be closed during the daytime every Wednesday for venue maintenance.

Scheduled to open on October 23, the Tin Yip Road Park has a total area of more than 25,000 square metres. In addition to provision of the first large-scale artificial turf pitch in Yuen Long District, the park also offers a jogging trail and a landscape terrace with trees all around. Various energy-saving features such as solar-powered lighting, a solar hot water system and a rainwater recycling system for plant irrigation have also been adopted to create a green recreational environment.

The daily opening hours of the artificial turf pitch are from 8am to 11pm. It can be used for 11-a-side soccer or 15-a-side rugby training and matches. The pitch has a covered spectator stand of 220 seats and various ancillary facilities such as referee rooms and changing rooms.

Currently there are two natural turf pitches in Yuen Long District, located at the Yuen Long Stadium and the Tin Shui Wai Sports Ground, which are very popular with the community. The artificial turf pitch of the Tin Yip Road Park is the first venue specifically designed for rugby sport in the New Territories to help meet the demand of the local community and to promote the development of soccer and rugby activities.

The Tin Yip Road Park, located near the Hong Kong Wetland Park, is within walking distance of Tin Sau Light Rail station. It is also accessible by bus route nos. 264M, 265S, 276B, 967, 967X, 969C; and green minibus service Route No. 618.
