Fatal traffic accident in Chai Wan

    Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Chai Wan this morning (September 28) in which a 36-year-old man and a man in his 40s were killed.

     At about 4.36am, two private cars driven by the 36-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were travelling along Shek O Road towards Shek O, while two private cars driven by the man aged about 40 and a 34-year-old man were travelling along Shek O Road towards Chai Wan. When approaching near To Tei Wan, the cars driven by the two deceased reportedly collided. Failing to stop, the car driven by the 26-year-old rammed into the two cars and then collided with the private car driven by the 34-year-old man.

     The car driven by the 36 year-old man caught fire. Sustaining serious burnt injuries, the driver was certified dead at scene.

     The driver aged about 40 was trapped inside the compartment. He was rescued and rushed to Eastern Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 5.48am. His 31-year-old male passenger, and another car¡¦s 34-year-old driver and 22-year-old male passenger, were also injured and sent to Eastern Hospital for medical treatment in conscious state.

     The 26-year-old and 34-year-old drivers were arrested for dangerous driving causing death and are being detained for enquiries.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island are underway.
