STH to visit UK and Netherlands

     The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, will leave for the United Kingdom and the Netherlands tonight (September 23) to promote Hong Kong as an international maritime centre and logistics hub. He will also exchange views with transport authorities there.

     During his stay in the United Kingdom, Professor Cheung will call on the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and visit the Port of Southampton to look at port and vessel management. He will also call on the Transport for London, and tour the London Overground and London Underground. He will also attend the Hong Kong Association Membership Forum and Reception in London to promote Hong Kong as a global city.

     On September 26, Professor Cheung will tour the European Container Terminals in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to gain experience in container port automation and attend a luncheon with the Dutch logistics industry. He will also pay a courtesy call on Amsterdam's Deputy Mayor, Ms Kajsa Ollongren.

     Professor Cheung will return to Hong Kong in the evening on September 27. During his absence, Under Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Yau Shing-mu, will be Acting Secretary for Transport and Housing.
