SHA congratulates HK athlete Lee Wai-sze on winning the first medal of Asian Games (with photo)

     The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, extended his congratulations to Hong Kong cyclist Lee Wai-sze for winning the first gold medal in the 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014 (Asian Games) today (September 21). In addition, other Hong Kong athletes seized three other medals in the Asian Games.

     Lee Wai-sze seized a gold medal in the Keirin event. This is also the second time Lee Wai-sze has seized a medal during a multi-sports games after the bronze medal she won in the Keirin event at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Other three medals included a bronze medal seized by fencing athlete Lin Po-heung in Women's Foil Individual event, and another bronze medal seized by fencing athlete Lam Hin-chung in Men's Sabre Individual event. These two fencing medals are the first time that won by the fencing team in the fencing individual events in the Asian Games. In addition, the Women's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay team seized a bronze medal and broke the Hong Kong records (athletes are Stephanie Au, Camille Lily Mei Cheng, Siobhan Bernadette Haughey and Rosanna Sze).

     "Hong Kong cyclist Lee Wai-sze has performed well and won the first medal for Hong Kong in the Keirin event at the Asian Games. We are thrilled by her outstanding performance," Mr Tsang said.

     He encouraged the Hong Kong athletes to continue to give their best and strive for excellent results.
