LegCo delegation visits Parliament of Denmark (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The delegation of the Legislative Council (LegCo) proceeded to the visit programme in Denmark yesterday (September 19), the last stop of its parliamentary visit in Northern Europe.

     In the morning, the delegation visited the State of Green, a public-private partnership founded by the Danish Government and the Confederation of Danish Industry aiming at promoting green economic growth in Denmark and making Demark as the first country in the world free from fossil fuel.  Delegation members received a briefing on the work of the State of Green and participated in a guided tour of the facilities.

     The delegation then attended a meeting with Ambassador for the Trade Council of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms Susanne Hyldelund.  A wide range of issues, covering trade, creative industries and food safety, were discussed at the meeting.

     In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Folketing, the Parliament of Denmark, to meet with First Deputy Speaker of the Presidium of the Danish Parliament, Mr Bertel Haarder.  Mr Haarder gave an introduction of the work of the Presidium of the Folketing and shared his views on the political landscape of the Danish Parliament and its relationship with the Danish Administration, as well as the powers and functions of the Presidium.

     At the Folketing, the delegation also met with Committee Secretary in the Committee Secretariat, Mr Jesper Thinghuus, and International Adviser in the International Secretariat, Mr Flemming Kordt Hansen.  Delegation members took the opportunity to learn about the committee system of the Danish Parliament and the work of the International Secretariat of the Folketing.

     After the meetings, delegation members participated in a guided tour of the Folketing.

     The delegation will visit the Danish Design Centre and the local food manufacturer today (September 20) and then depart for Hong Kong.
