***********************************************************

A 43-year-old woman was jailed for three years for attempting to use a false instrument and possession of a false instrument at District Court today (September 19).

The Court heard that the female defendant had attempted to use a forged bank statement certifying she had a credit account balance of USD$51.8 billions for inducing a financial agent to engage in an investment project in August 2013.

Following investigations by officers of Commercial Crime Bureau, Police arrested the defendant and seized some forged bank statements in her possession and at her residence. She was subsequently charged with attempting to use a false instrument and possession of a false instrument. She was convicted earlier and the sentence was handed down today.

Police are determined to take enforcement actions against commercial crimes in maintaining a safe business environment in Hong Kong.
