The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore enjoyed with some 200 guests an evening of Chinese orchestral music performed by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in Singapore tonight (September 6) to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The concert, staged by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in Singapore 17 years after its previous tour to the city state, delighted the audience with classics including "Grand Victory", "As the Moon Rises", the "Tang Capriccio" First and Third Movements, "Song of the Black Earth", "A Beautiful Night", "In Celebration of Good Times", "Follow the Pagoda Tree to Trace the Roots of Our Ancestors" and "The Yellow River Capriccio".

The Director of the HKETO in Singapore, Mr Fong Ngai, said, "The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra best exemplifies how East meets West in Hong Kong's vibrant arts and culture scene.

"We are pleased to bring Hong Kong's Chinese orchestral music to Singapore, one of the region's prime locations for cultural exchanges."

Mr Fong said cultural exchanges enhance mutual understanding, which is conducive to sustainable bilateral relations.

"Hong Kong and Singapore have enjoyed very close ties for decades. The average annual growth rate in bilateral trade between Hong Kong and Singapore was 9 per cent from 2009 to 2013, with both being each other's fifth largest trading partner in goods trade.

"We hope that with more exchanges between Hong Kong and Singapore, the two economies can become even closer, bringing about more collaborations on different fronts," he said.

The concert has been included in the programme for the 2014 China-ASEAN Cultural Exchange Year, which aims to promote regional cultural exchanges.

The 200 guests came from Singapore government departments and agencies, diplomatic missions, educational institutions, arts groups, trade associations, Hong Kong-related associations and media organisations. They were invited to attend a networking reception before the performance, which was staged at the Esplanade.
