Final two weeks of "The Extraordinary in the Ordinary: Chairs for Viewing the World through Time" exhibition (with photos)
************************************************************

Visitors to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum can view more than 100 chairs spanning from ancient times to the recent past up close in the exhibition "The Extraordinary in the Ordinary: Chairs for Viewing the World through Time". Those who have yet to see these valuable exhibits, which have been selected from the collections of the world's leading museums, should grasp the opportunity to visit the exhibition in the coming two weeks before its close on September 15.

The exhibition has been well received by the public, with around 200,000 visitors recorded since its opening on June 7.

Different types and styles of chairs, including seats used by emperors, the nobility and commoners, as well as chairs designed for specific functions and trades, are on display in the exhibition. Visitors can learn more about the seating customs of select ethnic groups, the evolution of chairs and the roles of chairs in everyday life and in political, economic and cultural exchange. Among the exhibits are an antler armchair made of antlers and bones from deer hunted by Emperor Kangxi, Queen Victoria's armchairs, a gouty chair and an exercise chair.

The exhibition is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and has been co-organised by the Palace Museum and the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. It is a highlight event under "Please Have a Seat", the first large-scale event on the theme of chairs launched by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

For details of the exhibition, please visit the Hong Kong Heritage Museum's website at www.heritagemuseum.gov.hk/eng/exhibitions/exhibition_details.aspx?exid=216 or call 2180 8188 for enquiries.
