Water quality at beaches in Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan suitable for swimming
************************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (August 27) that the 14 beaches in Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan have been reopened after water samples collected by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) have confirmed that the water quality is suitable for swimming.

An EPD spokesman said, "EPD officers collected water samples at 14 beaches in Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan districts for analysis yesterday (August 26). Analysis results confirm that the level of E. coli in the water is suitable for swimming."

The latest grading of water quality for the 14 beaches:

Grade 1 beach is:
Ma Wan Tung Wan Beach

Grade 2 beaches are:
Butterfly Beach, Castle Peak Beach, Kadoorie Beach, Cafeteria Old Beach, Cafeteria New Beach, Golden Beach, Lido Beach, Casam Beach, Hoi Mei Wan Beach, Gemini Beaches, Anglers' Beach, Approach Beach and Ting Kau Beach

The above beaches were temporarily closed as a precaution following the equipment breakdown at the Pillar Point Sewage Treatment Works on August 25.

The EPD will continue to closely monitor the water quality at beaches. The latest beach grades based on the most current data may be obtained from the department's websites on Beach Water Quality (www.beachwq.gov.hk and www.epd.gov.hk/epd/beach) or the beach hotline, 2511 6666.
