Fatal fire in Kwun Tong

     A 33-year-old woman, a 2-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy died in a No. 1 alarm fire in Tsui Ping (South) Estate, Kwun Tong, this morning (August 27).

     The fire broke out at a domestic unit on the 20th floor of Tsui Lok House, Tsui Ping (South) Estate, at 3.08am this morning. The affected unit measures 8 metres by 8 metres, and was severely damaged by fire.

     Firemen used one jet and mobilised three breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze. The fire was largely put out at 3.29am. About 120 nearby occupants self-evacuated to a place of safety.

     Four unconscious persons were rescued by firemen from the affected unit. A 33-year-old woman was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where she was later certified dead at 4.03am. The remaining three victims were sent to United Christian Hospital (UCH) for treatment. A 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old boy were certified dead at 3.43am and 3.49am respectively. An 8-month-old baby girl was admitted and is in critical condition.

     A 53-year-old man self-evacuated from the affected unit prior to the arrival of firemen. He was also sent to UCH and has been treated and discharged.

     Initial investigations revealed no suspicious circumstances concerning the cause of the fire. Investigation is continuing.
