Temporary closure of beaches in Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan
******************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) announced today (August 25) that due to the possible sewage pollution caused by facility malfunction in the Pillar Point Sewage Treatment Works, all beaches in the Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan districts have been temporarily closed for the sake of public health.

Members of the public are advised not to swim at these beaches during the closure period. Notices have been posted at these beaches to notify the public about the arrangement.

The LCSD had requested the Environmental Protection Department to take water samples from the concerned beaches for analysis tomorrow (August 26). The beaches will be re-opened when the result of the water samplings fall within acceptable level.

The 14 affected beaches are: Butterfly Beach, Castle Peak Beach, Kadoorie Beach, Cafeteria Old Beach, Cafeteria New Beach, and Golden Beach in Tuen Mun District and Anglers' Beach, Gemini Beaches, Hoi Mei Wan Beach, Casam Beach, Lido Beach, Ting Kau Beach, Approach Beach and Ma Wan Tung Wan Beach in Tuen Wan District.
